Boynton Beach Garden Club

Rustic Retreat Retirement Home is a modest 30-bed assisted living facility that provides care for the elderly, for military veterans and for adults with disabilities. The Boynton Beach Garden Club first became involved with Rustic Retreat around 2006 or 2008, when a few of our members from the local Leisureville community started delivering poinsettias and donuts to the residents on the day after Thanksgiving. The poinsettias are used to decorate the dining room tables for the holidays and then they are planted in the residents’ gardens. The annual gift of poinsettias and donuts is now a well established tradition, enjoyed by our members and the residents and staff of Rustic Retreat.

The Garden Club works with Rustic Retreat in other ways, also.  For instance, throughout the year, Club members collect magazines and books to delight of the men and women who enjoy reading.  For residents who love gardening, our members donate plants and cuttings, along with planting advice. After a 2018 hurricane damaged the signage at the Retreat’s entrance, a few of our members decided to help repair the sign by paying for the lettering. In 2019, we replaced Rustic Retreat’s dining room tablecloths. 

The Boynton Beach Garden Club is honored and pleased to be able to contribute in our small way to the general welfare of the residents of the Rustic Retreat Retirement Home. We look forward to continuing this joyful and worthwhile tradition and, in so doing, to living up to our stated mission “to realize beautification efforts in our community.”
