High Point West Memorial Garden

Before
Today

The exact date of the founding of the High Point Memorial Garden is unknown.  High Point residents report that the garden, surrounded by a four-foot winding shrubbery border with palm trees at the entrance, has been located at the far corner of the property for years.  It was an inviting spot containing an attractive statue, two benches and two decorative ornaments.  The plantings consisted of one large aloe, a few yucca plants, various succulents, and grasses.

The rebirth of the Memorial Garden came with the start of the pandemic.  The Boynton Beach Garden Club was fully prepared for its annual Spring Plant Share in March of 2020 when it had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.  Christine Johnson, a Garden Club board member, had the idea to donate the plants to the High Point Memorial Garden.  A team of gardeners from the Garden Club came together to plant the items that were to be given away at the cancelled Plant Share.

Today, the Memorial Garden is a beautiful, flourishing garden filled with many blooming flowers. Butterfly attracting milkweed plants and also an additional bench were donated by Christine Johnson.  Two jatropha trees and three desert roses have also been planted with a lovely collection of blanket flower, lantana, milkweed, and tickseed.

Through the hard work of a small crew of Garden Club members, this Garden has now become a welcoming location for residents of High Point to spend time sitting and enjoying the beauty of the flowers and the fluttering butterflies.
